Tarn Taran Crime News: Punjab Police ASI Shot Dead
Tarn Taran, Punjab: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police, identified as Iqbal Singh, was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Tarn Taran district on Sunday evening, October 11, 2026. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of police personnel and the law-and-order situation in Punjab.
According to media reports, Singh was returning home on his motorcycle when the attackers intercepted him and opened fire. He sustained multiple gunshot injuries and was declared dead after the incident. Senior police officials reached the spot, and an investigation was launched to identify the suspects and establish the motive behind the killing.
Details of the Tarn Taran Shooting Incident
Iqbal Singh, aged 55, was a resident of Naushera Pannuan village in Tarn Taran district and was serving with the Counter Intelligence wing in Ferozepur, according to reports.
The shooting took place near the Patwar Khana on the Naushera-Lohka road. Preliminary reports state that two unidentified men riding a motorcycle attacked Singh before fleeing the scene.

Police Investigate Possible Link to Nephew's Murder
Investigators are also examining whether the killing could be connected to the murder of Singh's nephew, Ajmeet Singh, who was reportedly shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants on September 11, 2026.
Reports indicate that Ajmeet Singh had faced several criminal cases. However, authorities have not established a confirmed connection between the two killings. The possibility of a link remains part of the investigation, and further evidence will be required before any conclusion can be reached.
A social media post attributed to individuals claiming responsibility for the killing has also been reported. The authenticity of such claims has not been independently verified, and they should not be treated as confirmed evidence of who carried out the attack.
Rising Concerns Over Attacks on Police Personnel
The comes amid other recent attacks involving Punjab Police personnel. Earlier in October, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhchain Singh, posted with the Government Railway Police in Amritsar, sustained a gunshot injury during an attack. Another ASI, Harjit Singh, was killed in Amritsar in September.
These incidents have intensified public and political debate about security arrangements and the challenges faced by police personnel in Punjab, particularly in border districts.
Opposition leaders have criticised the state government over the law-and-order situation and demanded stronger action against criminal elements. The investigation into Iqbal Singh's murder is likely to remain a key focus as authorities work to establish the facts.
