India secured the men’s cricket gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in a thrilling final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The victory allowed India to successfully defend its Asian Games cricket title and added another major achievement to the team’s campaign.


The final produced an exciting contest between the two Asian cricket rivals. India won the toss and chose to bat first, setting Pakistan a challenging target after an aggressive batting performance.

India Post 211 Runs


India finished their innings at 211 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Opener Abhishek Sharma provided an explosive start, scoring 61 runs from 28 balls. His attacking innings helped India build momentum during the early stages of the match.


Tilak Varma then played an important role in the final stages of the innings. He scored an unbeaten 51, helping India cross the 200-run mark and establish a strong platform for the bowlers.


India’s total of 211 gave Pakistan a demanding chase in the gold-medal match.


Pakistan Fight Back in the Chase


Pakistan started their run chase with determination and kept the Indian bowlers under pressure. Hasan Nawaz produced one of Pakistan’s standout performances, scoring 96 runs and keeping his team in contention for a possible victory.


However, Pakistan struggled to maintain the required scoring rate during the crucial stages of the innings. India’s bowling attack managed to restrict the scoring when the pressure was at its highest.


A key moment came during Jasprit Bumrah’s penultimate over, when India managed to limit Pakistan’s scoring and significantly increase the pressure heading into the final over. Pakistan eventually finished on 192 runs, giving India a 19-run victory.

The victory means India have successfully retained their Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal. The result also completes a memorable cricket campaign for India at the 2026 Asian Games, with the women’s team having also won gold earlier in the competition.


India had entered the final after a commanding semi-final victory over Sri Lanka, winning by 124 runs. Pakistan reached the final after defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in the other semi-final.
